Bob Marley era un grande. La gente preferisce ricordarlo come cannaiolo. Perché è più facile, certo.
È morto 30 anni fa, tondi tondi. Cancro all’alluce. Metastasi.
La sua ragione di vita è stata combattere per un popolo che ha versato sangue per secoli. Lo ha fatto meravigliosamente, come i grandi poeti della storia. Lo ha fatto con la sua musica che vivrà, come lui, oltre i limiti del tempo.
All’anagrafe Robert Nesta Marley, in pochi lo sanno ma era un gran calciatore, diceva che sarebbe arrivato in nazionale.
Il rastafarianesimo è una filosofia di vita africana, radicata in Etiopia, che prende il nome da Ras Tafari, imperatore etiope meglio noto come Hailé Selassié I. La caratteristica capigliatura rasta, i dreadlocks, sono un voto religioso che deriva dai testi sacri e si riferisce alla ben nota storia di Sansone.
La volontà di riunificazione di tutti i popoli di colore del mondo è stata la vera missione della vita di Marley. Questo lo spirito che si trova nelle sue parole e, tra le tante, in quell’autentico capolavoro che è Redemption Song. Proprio della canzone contenuta in “Uprising” sono molto note le cover di Lauryn Hill, Johnny Cash & Joe Strummer, Elisa.
Nel delirio per il terrore della malattia, Marley si rivolse anche ad uno specialista tedesco, ex medico delle SS.
Giunto alla fine, sul letto di morte, disse a suo figlio Ziggy: “Money can’t buy life”.

He’s died exactly 30 years ago. Toe cancer. Metastasis.
His reason of life was to fight for a people that shed blood for centuries. He did it wonderfully, like the great poets of history. He did it with his music which will live, like him, beyond the edge of time.
Bob was born Robert Nesta Marley, and just a few know this but he was a great soccer player, he said that he could play in the National Team.
The Rastafarian philosophy comes from Africa, especially Ethiopia, and take the name from Ras Tafari, Ethiopian emperor better known as Hailé Selassié I. The characteristic Rastafarian hairstyle, the dreadlocks, are a religious vote which derive from the Holy Texts and refers to the well known story of Samson.
The will to reunification of all black people of the world was the true mission of Marley’s life. This is the spirit that we find into his words and, among many, into that authentic masterpiece that is Redemption Song. The song, which is contained in the album “Uprising”, has been sang also by famous artists like Lauryn Hill, Johnny Cash & Joe Strummer, Elisa.
In delirium because of the terror for his illness, Marley addressed also to a German specialist, a former SS doctor.
Arrived to the end, on the deathbed, he said to his son Ziggy: “Money can’t buy life”.
