Abbey Road, lo sanno tutti, è a Londra. O quantomeno lì si trovano le famose strisce pedonali. I Beatles, però, sono di Liverpool, e oltremanica si scaldano per eventuali simili misunderstanding. Un po’ come scambiare Lennon per McCartney.

Non è per nulla semplice dire qualcosa dei Beatles. Hanno fatto musica. E la loro musica continuerà a suonare. Il lascito della band di Liverpool è semplicemente clamoroso, tra originali e cover, pubblicità e movies soundtrack le dediche non si contano. Tuttavia, ciò che ha reso e renderà immortali i Beatles non sono le parole. Né le musiche. È qualcosa che non si può spiegare. Chiamiamolo lascito, influenza, il rock and roll, il blues e il moderno pop. Hanno fatto LA musica, intesa come mondo, storia, materia, in quel famoso studio di registrazione di Londra. Anche se erano di Liverpool.

Il ’68 sappiamo tutti cos’è, o meglio cos’è stato, o meglio ancora cos’ha rappresentato per una generazione intera. Nessuno ricollega il ’68 ai Beatles ma è bene sapere che i 4 precursori di tutto ciò, o quasi, che è musica moderna, diedero in quell’anno il loro incredibile tributo alla rivoluzione del tempo: un album senza titolo.

Da tutti ricordato come The White Album, il doppio LP contenente tra le altre Back in U.S.S.R. e Helter Skelter in realtà non aveva nome. Copertina totalmente bianca e il nome del gruppo stampato in rilievo. Nell’anno culmine in cui chiunque grida, i Beatles mandano al mondo un album completamente bianco e senza nome. Una protesta meravigliosa.

Per rimanere più o meno in tema, un anno prima, nel 1967, quando i fab-four vennero ricevuti a Buckingham Palace si fumarono uno spinello nei bagni del palazzo. Tutt’altro che conformisti, quindi, a quanto pare. Diceria, forse, certo è divertente pensare a Ringo con l’occhio a mezz’asta di fronte a sua maestà. Nulla, comunque, in confronto a ciò che negli anni è diventata la famosa Paul Is Dead, la leggenda che vuole Paul McCartney morto in un incidente e sostituito da un sosia.

Inoltre, e di più, il lascito culturale. L’essere precursori dell’essere star moderno. Con i fans hanno completato ciò che Elvis aveva abbozzato, creando una magnetica attrazione che ha portato milioni di ragazzi ad adorarli. Di più, a venerarli. Per capirci, sarebbero comunque esistiti gli Stones senza i Beatles. C’era un ragazzo che come me amava i Beatles e i Rolling Stones, ma forse i Beatles sono semplicemente venuti prima. In tutti i sensi.

E allora vai a una sfilata durante la Fashion Week, e mentre guardi i corpi inesistenti di modelle che si trascinano e lo spettacolo e le creazioni degli artisti dei tessuti, accade che ti piace un sacco quella canzone. Una cover. Di Across The Universe. Dei Beatles.

Everybody knows that Abbey Road is in London. Or, at least, right there you can find the famous crosswalks. By the way, The Beatles are from Liverpool, and beyond the Channel someone get angry because of these misunderstandings. It’s like to mistake Lennon with McCartney.

It’s not simple to say something about Beatles. The did music. And their music will continue to exist. The Liverpool band let us plenty of things, original songs and music, advertising and movie soundtracks, uncountable dedications. By the way, what make Beatles immortal is not about the words. Neither the music. It’s something you can’t explain. We can call it legacy, influence, rock and roll, blues and the modern pop. They did THE music, understood as the world, the history, the matter, in that famous registration studio in London. Also if the were from Liverpool.

Everybody knows what the 1968 is, or better what it was, or better again what it has represented for a whole generation. No one links the 1968 to The Beatles but is good to know that the 4 precursors of everything, or almost, is the modern music, gave in that year their incredible tribute to the revolution: a non title LP.

By everybody remembered as The White Album, the double LP in which you can find, among the others, Back in U.S.S.R. and Helter Skelter, in reality was nameless. A totally white cover with just the band name printed. In the top year in which everybody screams, The Beatles give to the world an LP completely white and nameless. A marvelous protest.

To stay on that, one year before, in 1967, when the fab four have been received at Buckingham Palace the smoked a joint in the bathrooms of the Palace. Far from being conformists, as it seems. Maybe just a legend, of course, but sure is funny to think about Ringo with closed eyes in front of Her Majesty. Nothing, however, in comparison with the famous Paul Is Dead, the legend that wants Paul McCartney dead in a car crash and substituted by a double.

Moreover, the cultural legacy. Being precursor of the modern being a star. With the fans the completed what Elvis had just started, creating a magnetic attraction that had the result of million of boys and girls which love them. More, they venerated them.
